El arte de hacer reír

La risa.

Históricamente, la risa ha sido un tema enormemente ignorado por los pensadores y despreciado por muchos. Aunando a esto el triunfo de las doctrinas cristianas en el imperio romano, con sus estrictas y conservadoras normas, se han contenido las reflexiones sobre aquella y durante años se sofocó el fomento a hacer reír. Umberto Eco hace eco de esto en su famosísima novela El nombre de la Rosa, donde el libro asesino es el segundo libro de la Poética de Aristóteles donde el estagirita habla sobre la comedia, según Eco.
El desprecio por el reír puede remontarse hasta Platón para quien la risa es un vicio en el cual se ve disminuido el dominio de la psique sobre el cuerpo. Aristóteles sigue con esta tendencia al definir a la risa como una mueca de fealdad que deforma el rostro y desarticula la voz (lo que pone en cuestión la teoría plasmada en la novela de Eco).
Baruj Spinoza fue el primer filósofo en decir algo positivo sobre la risa. Para el judío, el único camino para el perfeccionamiento tanto del cuerpo como del espíritu, es el camino de la alegría.
Se ha propuesto que la risa responde fundamentalmente al mismo impulso que la filosofía; la captación del orden del mundo. El filósofo hace concepciones de lo que el mundo debe ser y procura establecer un orden en las cosas. El que ríe, al igual que el filósofo, capta lo congruente del mundo, pero al presentarse una incongruencia, en lugar de tratar de ordenarla, ríe.
Cuando reímos debemos muchas veces suprimir los sentimientos de compasión y misericordia por la desgracia ajena. Muchas veces cuando reímos, es por que reconocemos en lo absurdo una parte de nosotros mismos que hasta entonces no habíamos reconocido. Se puede reír de una desgracia que no tiene remedio.
Es claro que la captación humorística del mundo depende de los valores y las concepciones sociales de lo que es congruente y de lo que no. Yo diría, que el humor tiene un valor estético subjetivo, sujeto a la sociedad del que ríe. Es por ello que todo chiste es local y temporal. Encuentro en la risa muchas cualidades parecidas a lo que entendemos (si algo entendemos) por belleza y fealdad. Muchas veces no entendemos el arte si no estamos listos para lo que una nueva tendencia tiene que mostrarnos. Nuestro sentido de belleza esta sujeto a lo socialmente aceptado y a nuestro conocimiento del arte existente. Lo mismo ocurre con los chistes, que discriminan nivel cultural, nacionalidad y moral.
El reír puede, quizás, responder a alguna necesidad fisiológica (recordemos que el respirar oxido nitroso o gas hilarante desencadena risas incontrolables) pero esa es materia de otra reflexión. Más allá de la reacción del cuerpo a algún estímulo de índole neurofisiológico, podríamos decir que nosotros mismos al agregar las concepciones (prejuicios) de lo que el mundo debería ser es donde convertimos el mundo en cómico, pues reímos de lo que efectivamente es. En este caso, estos prejuicios resultan graciosamente favorables.
Es curiosa esa necesidad que tenemos los seres humanos de reírnos. Somos la única especie animal que ríe, llora y filosofa. Tal vez esas tres cualidades sean a final de cuentas lo que nos hace distintos a los demás animales.

Paisaje cubano con lluvia, 1984
Leo Brouwer (1939), compositor y guitarrista cubano, es uno de los compositores más significativos de la música latinoamericana del siglo pasado. En su obra convergen las corrientes de vanguardia más diversas aunadas a un carácter eminentemente latinoamericano dando como resultado una música única.
Una de sus aproximaciones más importantes a la composición musical es aquella que denominó como composición ‘modular’. Utilizando todo tipo de formas, ya sea el esquema de un árbol, el de una hoja, figuras geométricas, desarrolla formas musicales. Toda forma tiene en las composiciones de Brouwer una aplicación en pequeña escala, es decir al interior de la obra, y a gran escala, en la totalidad de la forma. Las pequeñas formas al interior de la obra forman módulos o células que en conjunto son para la obra lo que los ladrillos a una construcción. Como ejemplo muestro el estudio XX para guitarra. Aquí en la segunda sección –letra A- vemos seis recuadros. Cada uno de ellos es un módulo o célula que se repite varias veces. el número de repeticiones por módulos es desición del intérprete aunque para las células 4, 5 y 6 Brouwer sugiere 2, 3 y 5 repeticiones respectivamente. Cada célula retoma el material de su precesora y agrega material nuevo de manera que todo módulo se construye a partir de los materiales que le preceden. Así el primer módulo presenta re-mi dos veces, el segundo módulo re-mi-sol, el tercero re-mi-sol-si, el cuarto re-mi-sol-si la-sol-mi-re, de manera que la aumentación de material es gradual y ascendente. Intuimos un motivo geométrico como principio de composición y dada la repetición o regreso al material 1 como centro podemos pensar en una espiral, el diámetro es más corto hacia el centro que hacia los extremos.

El ejemplo que muestro es formalmente muy interesante, como lo son la mayoría de las vanguardias del XX, sin embargo, aunque sonoramente también posee un gran atractivo, en su totalidad musical resulta un poco superficial y carente de profundidad y expresión. Hay un marcado interés por la forma y un desinterés por el fondo de la obra. No juzguemos mal pues esta composición es un estudio, destinado a ejercitar la técnica del intérprete.
Lo que distingue a Brouwer de entre muchos compositores de vanguardia es el hecho de aplicar este tipo de procedimientos de composición a obras de naturaleza figurativa. Brouwer no siente ningún prejuicio ante la música descriptiva, dando resultados memorables. Como ejemplo de esto les propongo escuchar el Paisaje Cubano con Lluvia de 1984 para cuatro guitarras. En esta obra encontramos el mismo proceso ‘modular’ de composición convertido en un trabajo de abierta descripción. Brouwer representa una lluvia antillana y tropical típica del clima cubano describiendo sus fases desde el primer goteo hasta la tormenta pasando por el diluvio. Espero que les guste. 1:31 Alright, eastbound side of the BQE... make that westbound side of the BQE at Flushing Avenue... an accident taking down the left hand lanes, some delays starting to build in through that spot. From there we go to Long Island and, uh, right now, ah, out in Suffolk County, southbound on the Sagtikos Parkway southbound side at S3, Pine Air Drive in Baywood, an accident there, one lane is down. By the way, word from Long Island is all construction work has been cancelled today due to the holiday weekend. And, uh, Long Island Railroad right now running a normal schedule for today. Still scattered ten to fifteen minute delays into Penn Station. A broken rail continues to be a problem at Greenlawn as well, that's affecting the Port Jefferson Branch, although not badly as of now. As we, uh, check back in Westchester County, westbound Fifth Avenue at Second Street in Pelham, a lane closed until further notice as they work on clearing out a partial building collapse in through that spot. And, uh, northbound Route 31 in New Jersey, look for delays in through Parkside Avenue in Ewing, we've got a gas main break, Fire Department activity there at the moment clogging up the roads. Here's what you need to know about the bridges and tunnels: currently at the, uh, Holland and Lincoln Tunnels into and out of the city we're doing well. George Washington Bridge not bad in either direction across the span, looking pretty good in through the tolls as well. And over on the East River, still about ten to fifteen minutes at the Queens-Midtown Tunnel on the way into the city, that's been that way all afternoon. Not too bad on the way back out to Queens, the Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Williamsburg, pretty normal delays.

1:41 And getting a look right now over on the westbound side of the BQE at Flushing Avenue, a bad accident taking down the left hand lane. Looks to be a flame-engulfed limo, blowing lots of black smoke. Crews haven't yet arrived on the scene. A big tie-up through that spot until they can get that cleared out of the way. By the way, street cleaning rules suspended today citywide, that's throughout the Five Boroughs, the rules will be suspended until the holiday weekend is over, meter rules are still applying, though. They're working on getting that cleared up as well. Also, on Route 100, uh, Highway 100 now, at 134 in Yorkturn, eh, uh, Yorktown, accident involving a rolled over vehicle and they're working getting that cleared as well. Here's what we need to tell you about the bridges and tunnels: Hudson River crossings pretty quiet, Holland, Lincoln and the George Washington Bridge right now. Triboro look for construction work and that takes down two of the toll lanes as you head to the Bronx, uh, that is causing heavy traffic on the span. Queens-bound side looks OK. Whitestone Bridge, a lane down as you head to the Bronx as they do some ongoing deck repairs there. No bad, though, Queens-bound side a little bit slow through the toll plaza. Looks good all around at the Throgs Neck.

1:51 We take you first to Westchester County and, uh, right now Highway 100 at 134 in Yorturn, uh, Yorktu... uh, I still can't say that, Yorktown, accident involving a rolled over vehicle in through that area. Westbound side of 84 coming through Exit 4 in Middletown, an accident with injuries, that's still being cleared. As we, uh, take you out to Long Island now, problems on the Sagtikos State Parkway in through Pine Air Drive southbound side at Exit S3, accident takes down a lane. Traffic is jamming back to Crooked Hill Road in through that spot. By the way, no construction work on Long Island for the duration of the holiday weekend. Right here in the city, street cleaning rules are suspended today throughout the Five Boroughs. Those rules will be suspended until the weekend is over as well. Meter rules, though, still apply, which means you still have to feed the meter. Back over on the westbound side of the BQE at Flushing Avenue, a fiery limo crash taking down the left-hand lane as they're still waiting for crews to arrive. And, uh, right now here's what you need to know about the bridges and tunnels: we're looking at some delays on the East River crossings right now. The Manhattan Bridge right now kind of slow coming across the span leaving the city. Uh, we've got the Brooklyn Bridge a little bit slow in both directions, and the Williamsburg's not too bad as of now. Queens-Midtown Tunnel we've got about, uh, ten to fifteen minute delays into the city, back out to Queens looking just fine. And looking at the Hudson River crossings Holland and Lincoln OK. George Washington Bridge, on the Panasonic Jam Cam right now, moving well in both directions across the span.
